2018-2019 Special Education PTSA Board Welcome Letter

Hello from your new SPED PTSA board!

It’s a new school year and we are the new Special Education Parent Teacher Student Association or Sped PTSA board for 2018-2019. We are a group of parent volunteers with a child receiving special education services in Seattle Public Schools.

We exist to advocate, to represent and to be a voice for you and your child. We are here to provide support as you navigate the school system. We inform you of what’s happening in special education at the district level. We provide opportunities for you to get involved.

Our role is to listen and to communicate your feedback to staff at the district level. This helps inform existing and future policies as well as keep the lines of communication open between administration and the special education families they serve.

Our goal this year is all about connection and collaboration! We are planning a variety of opportunities to hear from you, such as “meet and greets”, Sped PTSA meetings, and presentations from speakers inside and outside the district. Furthermore, there will be a survey, coming out in the next few months, to provide us feedback on how best to serve you and your family. We want to know what is important and helpful for you.

This fall on October 23rd from 6-8pm, we start with a meeting at the John Stanford Center for Education Excellence (JSCEE). This is a time for parents, teachers, students and Directors of Special Education to come together for fellowship and business. Details to come. Please join us!

On October 9th, a listening session for special education families with superintendent, Denise Juneau will be held at the John Stanford Center for Educational Excellence (JSCEE). We hope to see you then!

We look forward to working together!
