October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) encourages businesses, organizations and advocates across the country to participate.
Recognizing the importance of ensuring all people have equal opportunity to contribute their skills and talents, this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM) theme is “Advancing Access and Equity.”
Held annually, NDEAM educates about disability employment topics and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities, and although national in scope, NDEAM’s true spirit lies in the many observances held at the grassroots level.
SSEPTSA encourages families to check in with their school communities to learn whether or not they are planning to observe NDEAM. If not, you can direct them to the “I Can” Public Service Announcement campaign website for ways to lead a youth discussion about inclusion in the workplace.
Grassroot campaigns can also include:
- Placing posters (click to order free posters) in your local coffee shops and/or in the break areas of your workplace.
- Using NDEAM’s media toolkit to post on your social media platforms.
“We can all play an important part in fostering a more accessible and equitable workforce, one where all people are recognized for their abilities—every day of every month.”
