Step 3. You can Say …

Dear Senate Leaders ,

As a constituent, I urge the Senate to fully fund special education of disabled students!

End limiting funding for education of disabled children to no more than 15% of a district’s enrollment. Washington’s children are growing up and we need their future to be funded now! Do not burden them with the delay of access to appropriate education and fulfill your constitutional promise to fund the education of ALL children in Washington state!

Setting a limit on funding for the education of disabled children is an unconscionable violation of their civil rights.

The McCleary decision found that the State, as its paramount duty, must amply fund the actual costs of basic education for every child in Washington State from regular and dependable tax sources.

I request that you lead the Senate to adhere to the responsibility and uphold the lawmakers’ moral agreements to fully fund education of our students with disabilities. End the unconstitutional cap on special education funding now!

Respectfully,

Your Constituent,

Parent/Teacher/Student/Concerned community member

Thank you for pressing send! We appreciate your advocacy and the time you spent to take action on behalf of Washington’s students!
